Jane Brodley - Plant Dying

Arcadia Plants is an independent nursery and natural dyeing workshop based in south Shropshire. My background is in vintage textile conservation and horticulture. I grow or forage for local and traditional dye plants, run workshops in natural dyeing and sell embroidery and knitting wool, and linen fabric for historical re-enactors. I use the three most historically important dye plants, madder, weld and woad, to obtain red, yellow and blue, which can be over-dyed to create a wide range of permanent colours. I am interested in the history of dyeing and engaged in historical research.
